STEVEN S. LOUIS, MD – ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON

Hinsdale, IL – Steven S. Louis, MD, is being recognized by Continental Who’s Who as a Top Orthopedic Surgeon for his years of excellent work in the medical field and his dedication to his patients at Hinsdale Orthopaedics.

Since 1997, he has been a critical member of the Hinsdale Orthopaedics team. Dr. Louis and a group of 31 exceptionally skilled doctors treat patients with compassion and attention to ensure the best possible results.

With training from a Fellowship in Trauma, Dr. Louis treats patients who have suffered from traumatic injuries. His specialty is treating pelvic injuries, complex fractures, nonunions, anterior hip replacements, minimally invasive knee replacements, and infections.

Dr. Louis was one of the first surgeons in Chicago to use the Direct Anterior Approach to perform total hip surgeries. For knee replacements, he is able to create a customized surgical implant, designed for each individual to ensure the best fit for their body. He prefers minimally invasive options, in order to give his patients the best chance of recovery and return to normal life.

For over 20 years, Dr. Louis’s ultimate goal has been providing the greatest treatment possible for every patient, whether they are getting a hip replacement or have been in a motorcycle or car accident. Using the latest advancements in medical technology and relying on a skilled medical team are two important aspects of Dr. Louis’ work. He loves to help his patients recover from difficult injuries, and help them get back on their feet, back to work, and back to living a healthy and happy life.

At Hinsdale Orthopaedics, he works to constantly integrate the newest in minimally invasive procedures. This results in improved quality of patient recovery, with patients reporting less pain and shorter hospital stays. The practice recently started a joint effort with the Illinois Bone and Joint Institute, allowing their patients to access expanded resources across Chicago and access more than 100 IBJI doctors who represent the full range of Orthopaedic care.

Due to the nature of his work, Dr. Louis takes ample time with patients, explaining their options and their condition thoroughly. He knows that patients and their families often face difficult decisions, and he approaches this aspect of his work with compassion, humor, and understanding. He always wants to make his patients comfortable and give them hope about their prognosis.

As the Director of Orthopaedic Trauma at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, Dr. Louis is well-known for his affable nature and dedication to his patients and fellow doctors. He has been the Chairman of the Operating Room Committee, and Chairman of the Department of Surgery. He has also has privileges at LaGrange Hospital.

In order to guide the next generation of doctors, Dr. Louis works as an instructor for the Association for the Study of Internal Fixation (ASIF). He is a clinical instructor at the Direct Anterior Approach Total Hip Arthroplasty. In this role, he trains residents and healthcare professionals alike, giving them the quality education they will need to practice in the field.

As for his own education journey, Dr. Louis first earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and Economics at Colorado College. He took premed courses at Columbia University. He then began at the Feinberg School of Medicine Northwestern College, where he earned his medical degree. He then completed a residency and an internship at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Next, he completed a Fellowship in Orthopaedic Trauma at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. He is board-certified in Orthopaedic Surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS has the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for Orthopaedic residents and surgeons, and evaluates their qualifications and competence.

To stay up-to-date on advancements in the field, Dr. Louis maintains associations with the American Medical Association, the International Orthopaedic Trauma Association, American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, Association of Bone and Joint Surgeons, Illinois Orthopaedic Society, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, DuPage County Medical Society, Illinois Orthopedic Society, and the Orthopedic Trauma Association. He is affiliated with the Hinsdale Hospital and Salt Creek Surgery Center.

Awards for his esteemed work include Top Doctor in Orthopaedics by US News and World Report, the On-Time Doctor Award (2016-2018), Patient’s Choice Award (2017-2018), and the Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2017-2018).

In his spare time, Dr. Louis enjoys giving back to the community as a member of the Adler Planetarium Board, and as Chairman of the Collections Committee. He is the founder of Hinsdale Community Rowing. He loves to spend time with his family and enjoy the great outdoors.
