FAQs on Ulna Fractures

What Is An Ulna Fracture?

Ulna fractures occur as a fracture to the arm or ulna (which is one of the bones between the elbow and wrist joints) usually occurs by the forearm being struck by an object. Commonly referred to as a “nightstick fracture”, an ulna fracture can occur as a victim attempts to protect the head from assault. Other frequent causes include falls and car accidents.

What Are The Symptoms of Ulna Fractures?

An ulna fracture typically causes pain, tenderness, bruising, swelling and some deformity of the arm.

What Are The Treatment Options For Ulna Fractures?

In most cases, immobilizing the bone with a brace or cast is all that is needed to help heal a fracture to the ulna. However, if there is a large amount of displacement of the fracture, an operation may be necessary to surgically stabilize the bone by placing a plate and screws along the ulna.
